TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Reading and Composition 1A, Shasta College 1997-2004: Emphasis on student success, computer technology, information competency, research skills, and critical thinking. Students read varied works, discuss current events, set career goals, hold weekly discussions online in class bulletin board.
Reading and Composition 1A Online, Shasta College 2000-2004: Co-created online class at the request of the English Department. Provide weekly maintenance to class web site listing assignments and linking to online material. Students learn online research competency, interact in class bulletin board and conduct regular online peer review. English 190, Shasta College 1997: taught evening classes at Anderson Outreach Center.
Journalism, Shasta College 1997: finished semester after regular instructor left position.
English Composition, CSUC, Chico 1995-96: Classes emphasized discussion of and writing about current events, as well as basic argumentation.
World Literature, CSUC, Chico 1996: Acted as TA and on-call substitute for department chair. Taught specialized classes providing background to various literary periods, including French history. Provided supplemental teaching for every class meeting.
Great Books, CSUC, Chico 1995: Acted as TA and on-call substitute for department chair. Provided supplemental teaching for every class meeting.
Writing Center Tutor, CSUC, Chico 1995: Aided remedial and international students in acquisition of basic writing skills; instructed basic word processing; aided students in establishing clarity and organization for writing across many disciplines at all levels.
Writing Workshop, CSUC, Chico 1994: Facilitated weekly workshops for at-risk and minority students registered in English Composition.
Community Education, Shasta College 1988-1990
Character Development in Fiction Writing: Expanded workshops initially offered through Writers Forum.
Business Grammar: Created class at the request of the Community Education Department.
OTHER EXPERIENCE
Free-lance Writer/Editor 1982-1988: Edited community newsletters and small magazines including a quarterly four-color magazine (Citizens Exchange) for a national telephone company for five years. Designed brochures, created advertising campaigns, wrote press releases and public service announcements.
Critique Group Facilitator: Hosted weekly critique groups for professional writers for 15 years. Publications from this group included three young adult biographies, short stories, poetry, and essays. Hosted weekly critique groups for beginning writers for three years. Publications from this group included travel literature, haiku, and small articles.
