SHORTS
Padded shorts wick perspiration away from the body, and they don't move
up and down on your legs so there is no irritation from friction. The
padding is seamless and creates extra comfort where you contact the seat.
There are two basic styles of shorts: body-hugging lycra or loose fit
cotton or nylon with a padded lycra undershort. Either style will make
a day on the bike more enjoyable!
GLOVES
Gloves offer protection if you should fall, but also important, they pad
the nerves that can make the hand lose circulation and become numb. For
problem hands, gel is added for extra cushion for those nerves. In cooler
weather long finger gloves keep your hands warm.
JERSEYS
Jerseys are worn for hot weather comfort to wick perspiration away from
the body and regulate body temperature by evaporating moisture. They are
made of specific fibers and are woven specifically for cycling garments.
They can be combined with a DeFeet UnDShirt to prevent chafing.
VESTS
& JACKETS
Vest & Jackets extend the riding season during the cooler days. They
are wind and water resistant, but must specifically state "waterproof"
to work on rainy days. They are light enough to store in a back pocket
or bag if the weather warms. Bright colors help visibility for road riders,
while snag resistant materials are common for mountain bikers.
SHOES
Cycling Shoes have a stiff sole to protect the foot from pedal pressure.
More advanced cyclists use toe clips or "step-in" pedals to
attach their foot to the pedals. This is to allow the rider to lift on
the backside of the pedal revolution instead of just pushing down for
power. It utilizes the muscles in both the back and front of the leg and
makes a huge difference in the efficiency of the pedal strokes. Like any
shoe, the fit is the most important element. We look at a variety of styles
to match the aggressiveness of the rider.
SOCKS
Cycling socks are thin so they don't create wrinkles that can irritate
the skin. They are an open-weave to keep the ventilation of the shoe working
and to wick perspiration away. In winter months when the ventilation is
not desirable, shoe covers, wool socks, and waterproof socks work to keep
the cold out.
ARM
& LEG WARMERS
Arm & leg warmers are a great invention! They are a removeable sleeve
to make a short sleeve jersey into a long sleeve. They can be taken off
and rolled into a jersey pocket or bag if the sun comes out. The leg warmers
are the same idea - they make shorts into long pants, but can be shed
if the weather warms up.
EAR
WARMERS
Ear Warmers are designed to be thin enough to wear under a helmet, which
of course you ALWAYS wear when you ride.
RAIN
GEAR
Stay
dry and comfortable even in the wettest weather with our complete selection
of rain jackets and pants. The name of the game here is waterproof and
breathable - lets perspiration and moisture escape, while keeping the
rain out!
