Installing SnowCrest Internet Tools for Macintosh

Back to Macintosh FAQ

System Requirements:
Macintosh with System 7.1 or higher
MacTCP control panel version 2.0.6 or Open Transport 1.1
2400 baud modem (28.8 recommended)
8 Megabytes of built-in RAM (16 MB recommended)
15 Megabytes of free hard disk space

----------------------------------
How do I know what System I have?
Go to the Apple menu and select "About This Macintosh...". The System version
number and the amount of built-in memory(RAM) will be displayed on the window.
----------------------------------
MacTCP
The MacTCP control panel is required to connect to the Internet. It is a commercial program; therefore we do not include it on our disks. MacTCP comes with System 7.5. If your computer is not running System 7.5 or higher you will either need to upgrade to System 7.5, or obtain it from another source. Apple charges $60 for MacTCP seperately, or you can buy the book "Internet Starter Kit for Macintosh" (ISBN 1-56830-064-6), which retails for $30. If you have purchased the Internet Starter Kit you can install MacTCP by following these steps:
1. Insert the Internet Starter Kit diskette.
2. Double-click on the "Installer" icon.
3. Click the "Continue" button.
4. Click on "Custom".
5. Click on "MacTCP Only".
6. Click the "Install" button.

Open Transport
PowerMac computers with number 7100 or higher come with Open Transport. Version 1.1 or higher is required (in place of MacTCP) to get onto the Internet through a dialup connection. If you have a PowerMac with System 7.5.2 your computer came with an older version of Open Transport and you will need to upgrade to System 7.5.3. This can be done with Apple's System 7.5 Update 2.0. You can also call your local Apple dealer for more information.
